Do you have to use Echo oil?
No. Echo equipment needs a quality 2-cycle oil rated for air-cooled engines, mixed at 50:1, and the JASO FD mark on the bottle is what confirms it (what that rating means). Echo’s own oils are formulated (and promoted) for exactly that, but Stihl’s HP oils, Husqvarna XP+, and AMSOIL Saber are all safe substitutes at 50:1. Two things you should never pour in:
- Marine TC-W3 outboard oil, which is formulated for water-cooled engines that run far cooler than an air-cooled cylinder.
